In order to extend the performance of its lifestyle speaker systems, Monitor Audio has created a wholly new sub-bass engine for the AW-12, designed to contribute a seismic blend of deep bass frequencies and high output with low distortion. Every component has been developed specifically for the AW-12, including the massively engineered front-firing 12" C-CAM driver and 500 watt Class D amplifier. The amplifier and its complementary high efficiency switch mode power supply are able to deliver full power with a continuous rating, equal to most other subwoofers rated at 1000 watts. This means that even in the largest rooms, the AW-12 is able to perform cleanly, dynamically and with profound effect over extended periods of listening.
The AW-12's luxury looks are no less impressive. Finished in a range of lacquers (Piano black metallic, and Piano White Metallic) to complement Monitor Audio's lifestyle satellite speakers, and complete with aluminium side trims, the AW-12 has the build quality and design to blend with the richest of interiors. Its compact sealed cabinet will be easy to position, and the top-mounted control of volume and EQ are designed for easy setup and adjustment. The 12V trigger input allows for auto-activation when using a compatible A/V receiver or processor.
The AW-12's new adjustable foot design has the floor spike permanently fitted with a removable heavy duty rubber cover for solid or hard wood flooring. Balancing beautifully the virtues of convenience and design, refinement and power, the AW-12 offers a devastating introduction to the benefits of superior subwoofer engineering.

Refined over many years by Monitor Audio, Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium is used as a driver cone material for all our speaker designs from the mid-market models up. Originally developed by the aerospace industry for jet engine components, C-CAM's properties are ideal for loudspeaker cones being extremely rigid, yet light enough to yield high overall efficiency. C-CAM bass drivers are able to resist the bending distortion imposed by sudden and extreme bass excursions to reproduce very clean, deep and dynamic bass frequencies. Conventional cone materials are more likely to flex in operation, producing a significant level of audible distortion.

BEST STYLE SPEAKER PACKAGE £2000+
"You certainly can't buy a better made, better finished or (to our eyes, at least) better looking package at the price."

Apex has the pecs
"...High-frequencies are smooth as silk, speech couldn't be clearer if the actors were in the room and the rear soundstage is willfully expansive. And with music, this system nailed the emotion and energy of any recording I threw at it. Clean, full bodied vocals, metronomic timing and wonderful detail reproduction make for a spine-tingling listen and reveal it to be a fantastic all-rounder."

The holy grail of style speaker systems
"It offers the sort of powerful, insightful audiophile sound that you don’t automatically associate with satellite speakers, a result of the astonishing build quality and clever technology that lies within each unit."

Monitor Audio raises the style bar
"It's muscular when called upon, but articulate and beautifully integrated too, with little audible sign of the crossover from speakers to subwoofer."27 May 2011 Ricky Degnell
Just added two of these subwoofers to my Apex A10 and A40 set-up in a 7.2 system. They haven't been playing for much longer than a week but the high potential is already evident. I'd like to call this subwoofer effective, but subdued - meaning it melts seamlessly with the speakers and doesn't call attention to itself. It moves plenty air, for sure, but in my listeningroom and with my settings I get precise subtlety rather than earthquakes (using EQ-1 setting). Just the way I want it. Accurate for music, magestic for film. I'm certain this little box can be set up to cause earthquakes if one desires, but I for one like what I'm hearing now. And with 2 of them the bass is much more evenly dispersed throughout my listeningroom, even when moving and walking around. Brilliant. Downsides? Three things. The "soft" spikes are rather odd looking. I don't like their shape. But I plan on replacing these with another set of my own choice (if only I can unscrew the factory installed samples?). However, they seem to be doing their job so it's not a big deal. Also, I wish the blue LED ontop would change color during stand-by, or better yet - turn off completely. As it is now, it's illuminated constantly which renders one to think the unit is powered up when that is not the case. Lastly, I’m finding this to be the first subwoofer I’ve ever owned seemingly picky about placement. Just like the user manual suggests, corner placement is not ideal. Boomy. But moving it out a bit, or even without any boundaries surrounding it I got good results. This is naturally down to listeningroom acoustics for the most part. Pity there is no advanced equalizer system for tuning it in more accurately. For now I have to result in the room-correction of my receiver.

In a word, 'AWESOME' - the Apex series is my first ever experience with Monitor Audio speakers and I can't imagine needing another compact 5.1 set than these. Auditioned KEF KHT and T-series, Focal Dome and M&K, but the Apex are brilliant with music and movies alike in a way the others were not.
